Connecting from the local exchange to the home gateway

- The PVCs from the DSLAM on the local exchange route the broadband signals to and from the ATM network via a 155 or 622 Mbps pipe
- The Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network is a multipath network, which connects to a home gateway. After the home gateway, all broadband traffic follows the TCP/IP protocols of the Internet.
- Home gateways come in two particular flavours: a 34Mbps gateway and a 155Mbps gateway.
