Connecting from the phone socket to the exchange

In order to connect from inside a business to the Internet a minimum of three things are required:

  • An account with an Internet Service Provider.
  • A router which is capable of interfacing to the phone line.
  • And if the router has to use the only phone line in the business, then the phone line needs to have micro-filters so that broadband access and telephone calls can work at the same time.

Micro-filters enable the “always on” broadband connection to operate alongside the normal phone calls. Each micro-filter box contains a filter for the broadband connection from the router, plus a filter for the phone connection. These filtered signals are then fed out of the micro-filter box into the phone socket.
